Electrofishing

The first step in creating the fishery of your dreams

What is Electrofishing?

In order to help you achieve a healthy pond, a comprehensive lake analysis provides us with a better look at what is going on in your lake. The following video explains what Electrofishing is and how this initial step leads to a premium lake.

Our Typical First Step In Assessing The Condition Of A Pond And Its Fish Population Involves Electrofishing.

Our typical first step in assessing the condition of a pond and its fish population involves electrofishing. Our electrofishing boats are equipped with state-of -the-art gear which allows us to safely and effectively sample your fish population. Included in our initial analysis is a population survey, an alkalinity check (to determine lime requirement) and an aquatic weed assessment. In addition, we note relevant physical characteristics, such as condition of the dam, spillway and shoreline and the relative abundance of fish cover and habitat. Our findings and recommendations are summarized in a comprehensive management plan. If you are ready to improve the quality of fishing in your pond and would like expert advice on how to make it happen, please contact one of our offices to schedule an electrofishing evaluation. We are sure you will find it to be one of the most interesting and enjoyable things you have ever done on your pond.

Comprehensive Analysis

We provide a complete evaluation of the fish community, water quality, aquatic vegetation, fertility level, as well as other important physical characteristics of the lake or pond (mechanical spillway, emergency spillway, watershed analysis, etc...).

The Forage Base

Is the food chain in your lake in balance?
Your lake will not produce big predators without adequate forage.

The Predators

How many predators are in your lake? How big (length, weight)? What are the factors that will maximize bass growth?

Why use Southeastern Pond Management for an electrofishing evaluation?

Selected Fish Tagging

When you catch a tagged fish, contacting us will compare the current measurements with the electrofishing evaluation measurements – this is a indicator of the effectiveness of management activities.

Predator/Prey Evaluation

Predators are weighed, measured and tagged. Forage species such as bluegill and shad are evaluated.

Specifically Designed Boats

Each electrofishing boat is equipped with a generator and a pulsator. The fish are safely collected and placed in a high volume live well.
